Synopsis

Ryouhei Arisu is a high school student who's always felt disconnected from life, so he spends most of his time zoning out. One night, he and his best friends Daikichi Karube and Chouta Segawa are hanging around a bar. While waiting for the first train home, the sky suddenly lights up with fireworks—then a massive, blinding burst knocks them all unconscious. When they come to, they're back at the bar covered in dust. The entire city is gone. It's a wasteland. For Arisu, though, this is actually kind of amazing. The freedom, the emptiness—it makes him feel genuinely alive for maybe the first time ever. That feeling doesn't last long. The three of them stumble into what looks like a festival venue. There's food, atmosphere, the whole thing seems almost too good to be true. That's because it is. They have no idea they're about to play their first game, and this one will kill them if they're not careful. Arisu and his friends have just entered the Borderland—a strange place where survival depends on winning deadly games. One wrong move, and you're done.
