The Five Star Stories
Five Star Stories
The Five Star Stories is set in the Joker Star Cluster, which actually gets its name from the cluster itself. It consists of four main stars—Eastern, Western, Southern, and Northern—plus a fifth element: a massive comet called Stant that swings through every 1,500 years with its own collection of orbiting planets in tow. Way back, the Farus Di Kanon Empire (now just called the "Super Empire") ran all four solar systems in the cluster with technology way beyond anything we see today. They sent explorers all over the Joker Galaxy until the empire fell apart around 9000 AD due to infighting. After that, survival became the priority and a lot of that advanced knowledge got lost. Eventually the ruling families of Amaterasu, Fillmore, and Hathuha came together and created the JC era—that's the Joker Calendar, basically meant to give everyone a shared timeline and hopefully bring lasting peace. It didn't work out that way. The actual stories start in JC 2988. By then interstellar travel is routine and humanity's been engineering "fatimas"—genetically designed beings who serve as essential co-pilots for massive war machines called mortar headds. These things dominate every battlefield. Nations are constantly at war with each other, and honestly, nobody's really expecting peace anymore.
