Shaman King
Shamans are people with the rare ability to see and communicate with ghosts, spirits, and gods—things completely invisible to normal folks. Every five hundred years, shamans from around the world compete in the Shaman Fight tournament for the title of Shaman King. Whoever wins gets to commune with the Great Spirit and reshape the world however they want. Manta Oyamada is just your average middle schooler trying to cut through a cemetery to get to class on time when he spots a boy sitting on a gravestone. The kid invites Manta to stargaze with "them"—and yeah, "them" means the boy and his ghost buddies. Manta bolts. But later, the boy (You Asakura) catches up with him, proves he's actually a shaman by summoning a six-hundred-year-old samurai ghost named Amidamaru to save Manta from some street thugs. You's impressed that Manta can see spirits and decides to bring him along as he trains to become Shaman King, with Amidamaru as his spirit partner.
