Synopsis

Kaoru Nishimi's been the new kid more times than he can count. His intelligence and wealthy family background tend to make him stand out—and not in a good way. When he finally lands in Kyushu for his first year of high school, though, things actually start to look up. He connects with Ritsuko Mukae, the class president, and somehow ends up befriending Sentarou Kawabuchi, the school's most notorious delinquent. They couldn't be more different—Kaoru's an honor student while Sentarou spends his time fighting and cutting class. But they discover they share an unexpected passion: music. Ritsuko invites Kaoru to visit her family's record store one day, and he finds Sentarou in the basement playing jazz drums. Kaoru's a classical pianist with zero jazz experience, but watching Sentarou's skill lights something up in him. He decides to give the genre a real chance, and soon the two of them are holding regular jam sessions in the record store's basement after school. As Kaoru dives deeper into jazz, he discovers more than just a new musical style. He finds a genuine friend in Sentarou and learns what it actually means to enjoy playing music.
