Simoun
In Daikuuriku, everyone is born female and gets to choose their sex when they turn 17. The peaceful theocracy of Simulacrum is protected by magical flying machines called Simoun, which only girls who haven't made that choice yet can pilot. These machines can unleash a devastating power called Ri Maajon that wipes out huge numbers of enemies in one strike. When the industrial nation of Argentum decides it wants Simulacrum's Simoun technology badly enough to invade, war erupts. The young female pilots—called Sibyllae or priestesses—suddenly find themselves in way over their heads. As the conflict drags on, they're offered a deal: they can keep flying Simoun and delay their sex choice indefinitely as long as they stay in active duty. Aaeru, a determined Sibylla with a shadowy past, and Neviril, commanding officer of the elite Chor Tempest squadron, have to navigate both the warfare above and the tensions brewing within their own ranks as they lead their sisters through the fight.
