The Rising of the Shield Hero
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
Naofumi Iwatani, a twenty-year-old otaku, gets yanked into the fantasy kingdom of Melromarc without warning. The king tells him and three other summoned people that they're the Four Cardinal Heroes, destined to fight off catastrophic waves of destruction threatening the world. Problem is, Naofumi draws the short straw. He's stuck with a shield and gets labeled the Shield Hero—basically the weakest of the bunch. No decent mercenaries want to work with him, but the king's daughter Malty volunteers to help. Of course, she turns out to be a complete snake. The next morning, Naofumi wakes up robbed blind and facing false rape accusations from her. His status as a Cardinal Hero saves him from execution, but the damage is done—his reputation gets dragged through the mud. With nobody willing to hire him, Naofumi buys a slave girl named Raphtalia to be his companion and sets out on a dangerous journey. He's determined to figure out how this world works, grow stronger, and make the people who destroyed him pay.
