Futakoi Alternative follows Rentarō Futaba, a detective who runs his own agency. When twin sisters Sara and Sōju show up at his place one day, they move in and start working as his secretaries. The show's hard to pin down genre-wise. It's basically a romantic comedy at heart, though it starts out pretty lighthearted and gets progressively more serious. The thing is, this tonal inconsistency is both the show's biggest strength and its main weakness—it jumps around constantly between romance, action, sci-fi/fantasy, and comedy, never really committing to any single style.
