Synopsis

The story is set in post-WWII Japan, where the country lies in ruins after defeat. The Japanese government accepts the Allied reconstruction plan, and while things gradually improve, America and China end up carving the nation into separate zones of control. Over time, the Chinese sectors turn into Chinatowns and the American areas become thoroughly Americanized, with so many foreign immigrants flooding in that Japanese people become minorities in their own country. Not everyone's okay with this—some Japanese people secretly organize to resist the occupation system. Rose Haibara works at a nightclub called Primavera, where she runs an unofficial lending operation to help Japanese people get back on their feet. Leo Shishigami, on the other hand, is notorious for his way with women. Everything shifts when these two meet in spring 1947.
