Synopsis

Arkham City is a thriving commercial center, but it's also steeped in occult history—home to Miskatonic University, which houses one of the world's most extensive collections of arcane texts. The city itself was built up over two generations by the Hadou Group, an industrial powerhouse now run by the young heiress Hadou Ruri. She's committed to keeping Arkham prosperous and safe from the supernatural forces constantly threatening to plunge it into darkness. The biggest threat comes from the Black Lodge, a sinister organization led by the charismatic Master Therion. His nihilistic philosophy drives the group's goals, and with a circle of powerful sorcerers behind him, he's capable of unleashing serious chaos on the city. Daijuuji Kurou used to study magic at Miskatonic but didn't stick with it—what he learned about grimoires scared him off. These days he runs a struggling detective agency out of an orphanage on the quiet side of town, trying to leave that life behind. But his past won't stay buried. When Hadou Ruri shows up at his door with an offer he can't refuse, Kurou gets pulled right back into the occult underworld. According to her, the only way to stop the Black Lodge is to find a specific grimoire—one powerful enough to activate Demonbane, the ultimate magical weapon. Finding it will reshape everything Kurou thought his life would be.
