After a time war tears Japan apart, young Shoichi escapes by boat with his two sisters and a handful of other children. Things go south fast when they're ambushed by weird samurai from the future. During the attack, a girl named Shizue gets her face mysteriously scarred by something—some kind of unknown creature. Just when things look hopeless, a strange battleship called the Yumihari shows up and rescues them. Once Shoichi gets aboard, he notices something odd: Shizue's injuries have completely disappeared, like they were never there in the first place.
