Many ranked low on the social ladder, stayed anonymous their whole lives, and scraped by with their families just to survive. Nakamura Hanshirou, his wife Yukie, and their young son Tarou are one of these ordinary families. Through their everyday struggles, Yamato Waki shows what life actually looked like for regular people living in the shogun's capital during this famous era—the parts of history that don't usually make it into the stories. The second volume includes a three-chapter side story called "Aoba Shigereru" featuring the same main cast.
