Arve Rezzle: Kikaijikake no Yousei-tachi
It's 2022, and quantum computing has made mind uploading a reality. Tons of people have ditched their bodies and moved into cyberspace permanently. Remu's sister Shiki was a genius who started high school at 14 in the floating city of Okinotori-island Mega Float City. One day she video calls Remu with a confession: she's been living in cyberspace the whole time. Her real body is floating in a "Body pool"—basically a tank of nutrient fluid—kept alive while nanomachines in her brain link her consciousness to the network. Remu's shocked, but he rolls with it. Then disaster strikes. Something called "Early Rupture" crashes the network servers, and everyone logged in loses their mind to cyberspace. Their bodies survive, but they're just empty shells. Desperate to save his sister, Remu heads to her apartment in the city and finds her there—except she claims she's not Shiki. Somehow, someone else has taken over his sister's body. Before Remu can even process what that means, the apartment comes under violent attack.
