Set during the late 1800s when Japanese culture was becoming all the rage in the West, the story follows Yune, a young Japanese girl who hitches a ride back to France with Oscar, a French traveler. She volunteers to work at his family's ironwork shop in Paris, where Oscar's nephew Claude—the actual shopowner—reluctantly agrees to let her stay. From there, it's basically about how these two people, who have almost nothing in common, slowly learn to understand each other and figure out how to live together in 19th-century Paris.
