Michiko Shibata, 29 and freshly unemployed, is broke and living off cabbage. With no real skills or work experience to speak of, she keeps bombing job interviews. Still, she wastes what little money she has on expensive gifts for her boyfriend, convinced that if she just keeps investing in the relationship, he'll eventually marry her and take care of everything. Turns out he's been stringing her along the whole time—using her for cash and lying about his feelings. At rock bottom, Michiko runs into Ayumu Kurosawa, her old boss who was notoriously strict and someone she'd actually resented working under. But Kurosawa feels bad about her getting fired and decides to help her out. He ends up hiring her again.
