Mononoke
A medicine seller travels around hunting mononoke—supernatural demons that prey on humans. He's got a sword and he knows how to use it, but he doesn't just slash first and ask questions later. Before he can actually kill a mononoke, he has to figure out three things: its form, the truth behind whatever tragedy created it, and the reason it exists in the first place. Only once he understands all of that can he draw his blade and finish it off.
