Synopsis

Reiji Oozora is pretty much a loser—he can't do anything right, especially school. So when his friend Maiko Yukino offers to share her notes with him, there's a catch: he has to take her wherever she wants to go. She drags him to a secret spot where people play Dragon Drive, a virtual reality game. Reiji jumps in and gets his own dragon, except it's the smallest and weakest one around. He names it Chibi just because of how tiny it is. Pretty soon after joining, Reiji and Maiko get thrown into a battle against Daisuke, a classmate who's got a crush on Maiko. Reiji tries to bail, but then something wild happens—Chibi suddenly powers up out of nowhere and crushes Daisuke's way bigger dragon. Reiji wins and becomes instantly obsessed with the game. A staff member named Agent L notices something special about Chibi's crazy performance and invites both of them to a training room. She explains that the real goal of Dragon Drive is to unlock dragons' true potential. Right then, a mysterious girl shows up riding her own dragon and pulls them into an actual magical world. Turns out this place is under attack by an evil organization called RI-ON, and somehow Reiji's little runt of a dragon is the only thing that can save it. And that's where things really take off.
