Synopsis

In the American Old West, thousands of people gather in San Diego for the Steel Ball Run—the world's greatest race. Competitors will travel over six thousand kilometers across uncharted wastelands, pushing themselves to the limit for a shot at fifty million dollars. With horses becoming obsolete, racers are free to use whatever vehicle they want. Johnny Joestar shows up as a spectator, a former horse racer left paralyzed two years ago. While watching, he encounters Gyro Zeppeli, an oddball competitor who carries two steel balls instead of guns. Johnny sees Gyro use one of them to pull off something impossible—forcing a guy to shoot himself during a duel. When Johnny touches the steel ball out of curiosity, he feels power surge through his legs. For the first time in years, he can stand. Desperate to understand the steel balls' secret, Johnny decides to enter the race himself. What starts as a search for answers becomes a bizarre cross-country adventure.
