In an alternate postwar world, Japan was split between a US-allied south and a Soviet-controlled Hokkaido in the north. Rising from Hokkaido was a strange metal tower, stretching so high it was visible from Honshu's northern coast. Back in 1996, three teenagers—Hiroki, Takuya, and Sayuri—made a pact: they'd build a radar-invisible plane, sneak into Hokkaido, and figure out what the tower was. The plan fell apart when Sayuri suddenly slipped into a coma and was sent to Tokyo for treatment. Now, three years later, the kids have grown up, and their youthful dreams have faded. But their promise to each other hasn't. They're determined to finally uncover the truth about the tower—and discover what it has to do with Sayuri's condition, whatever's keeping her in that mysterious coma.
