After a devastating war between humans and monsters in the 20th century, the monsters took over the world—though they mostly stay hidden from everyday sight. A kid named Bokka becomes obsessed with the legendary Meros Warriors who fought back against the demons, wondering what happened to them. When he meets Kurofune, he learns about the Meros' power and their I-bar machines used in combat. Turns out only certain Warriors can perceive the Melody of Oblivion, a mysterious phantom girl trapped somewhere, waiting to save humanity. Everything changes when Bokka witnesses a battle between Kurofune and a demon and realizes he can hear the melody too—something he never thought possible. As he travels around, he encounters various monsters, their human allies, and others caught up in this strange world. Along the way, he discovers just how far his newfound abilities actually reach.
