Ten years ago, a tragic accident killed Ryouta Murakami's childhood friend Kuroneko. Driven by grief and her passion for the subject, Ryouta threw himself into searching for aliens—now the sole member of his school's Astronomy Club, he spends his nights hunting for evidence of extraterrestrial life. Everything changes when a girl named Neko Kuroha transfers into his class. She looks disturbingly like Kuroneko, but denies knowing Ryouta and vanishes after cryptically warning him to stay away. It turns out Neko is a witch—someone with scientifically-engineered magical abilities—who escaped from a covert research facility where she was being experimented on. Soon other witches start showing up at the Astronomy Club, all desperate to flee the horrific fate awaiting them at the lab. Witnessing what these girls have endured, Ryouta decides to stand against those hunting them. But he's also determined to figure out why Neko looks exactly like his dead friend.
