After an earthquake and tsunami devastate the coast, Yui escapes her abusive husband and meets Hiyori, a young orphan. They're both taken in by Kiwa, an enigmatic but caring old woman who brings them to a mysterious abandoned house perched on a beautiful seaside cape in the small town of Kitsunezaki. As the three rebuild their lives and help restore the town, they slowly heal from their respective traumas while getting used to their supernatural new home. Kiwa tells them local folklore—stories of a shapeshifting fox-woman from the mountains, a demon called Agame, and a sea snake that once preyed on the townspeople's fears and grief until they managed to trap both creatures in an underwater cave. But strange, unsettling things start happening around Kitsunezaki, and the three begin to wonder: did the earthquake somehow release Agame and the sea snake again? To protect their home and each other, Kiwa, Yui, and Hiyori team up with an unlikely crew of allies—kappa river spirits, a fearless house spirit, and flying stone guardian statues—to track down and banish the threats once and for all.
