Paradigm City is a place where nobody remembers anything. Forty years ago, something happened—nobody knows what—and it erased everyone's memories. The whole city had to rebuild itself from whatever scraps of the past they could find. Roger Smith works as a negotiator, the guy who steps in when the cops, criminals, and regular people need someone to broker a deal or defuse a situation. He's good at it. But there's something else lurking in this amnesiac city: the MegaDeuses, massive robots that came from before the forgetting. Whether the old inhabitants built them or the current residents did is anyone's guess. When things get weird and dangerous, Roger doesn't negotiate anymore. He climbs into the Big O, a giant robot of his own, and uses it to take down the people responsible. This is the story of the manga adaptation—darker and more complex than the cartoon, blending noir atmosphere with surreal sci-fi action.
