Asumi Kamogawa is a tiny 14-year-old with an obsession with space and astronomy. She's been studying the cosmos since childhood under the guidance of "Lion-san"—a friendly ghost who, yes, wears a giant lion head. Her home life isn't great, but that doesn't stop her from enrolling at Tokyo Space School anyway. At school she falls in with a solid group of friends: Shinnosuke Fuchuuya, her childhood pal who wears glasses and doesn't sugarcoat things; Kei Oumi, an upbeat girl who got into space after seeing Neil Armstrong's moon landing photos; Marika Ukita, a reserved but stunning girl with secrets; and Shuu Suzuki, a laid-back but sharp guy with guts. The story takes place in an alternate timeline where Japan's first rocket failed catastrophically in 2010. Futatsu no Spica follows these five teenagers as they navigate adolescence and chase their dreams of reaching the stars.
