Synopsis

Temple knights, or shinden, are tasked with fighting demons to protect the holy maiden—a position unique to this country and central to the church's authority. The maiden's role is crucial: she helps save people from a strange illness that strikes around each new moon, which has earned the church a devoted following. Murray is a shinden raised under the holy maiden's direct care, but his life is anything but straightforward. He continues to support her despite his doubts, even as he watches the church twist its own teachings. What kind of existence is he really living?
