D'Artagnan travels from Gascony to Paris hoping to join either the King's Musketeers or the Cardinal's Guards. When he arrives, he manages to pick fights with three different guys—Athos, Porthos, and Aramis—and challenges each of them to a duel. Before any of them can actually fight, though, the Cardinal's Guards show up and break things up, since the King had banned dueling. Despite the rough start, the four of them end up becoming friends and adopt their famous motto: "all for one, and one for all."
