Smartphone apps are everywhere, but most people don't know about the creatures living inside them—Appmon. These AI lifeforms exist in the space between the digital world and reality, helping apps function and letting humans interact with their devices. Everything changes when Leviathan, a massive boss AI, infects the Appmon with a virus and starts hacking into systems across the internet. With control of the digital world, Leviathan begins manipulating the real world too. When Haru Shinkai gets his hands on an Appli Drive, he's able to summon Gacchimon, a search-type Appmon. But a lot of questions start piling up: What exactly is the Appli Drive, and why does Haru have it? What's the weird boundary between the digital world and reality where the Appmon live? How does "App Combine" work—can two Appmon really merge together? And what does Leviathan actually want?
