Shakugan no Shana
Yuji Sakai is a high school student who gets hit with a shocking revelation: he's already dead. Some mysterious girl tells him he's a "Torch"—basically a temporary stand-in for people who've been erased from existence. Torches look like whoever they're replacing, but they're on a countdown. Eventually, they'll just vanish, and nobody will remember they ever existed. Yuji takes the news surprisingly well and ends up befriending the girl, who he nicknames "Shana" after her weapon. Turns out she's actually a supernatural warrior dedicated to protecting him from Denizens—creatures that would love to exploit his unique ability to regenerate and cause all kinds of chaos. Yuji decides to throw in with her and help fight back.
