Synopsis

Liam's first life was spent doing everything right—he was moral, responsible, the whole deal. Then he died broke and betrayed by his wife, which kind of sucked. So when he's reborn as a member of the imperial ruling family in a sprawling space empire, he decides things are going to be different. This time, he's not going to be the sucker. He figures the world is split between people who get stepped on and people who do the stepping, so he's going all-in on being a selfish tyrant and taking what he wants. Except it doesn't work out that way. No matter what he does or how hard he tries to be terrible, his decisions somehow end up bringing peace and prosperity to the empire. And the more ruthless he tries to be, the more popular he gets. It's incredibly frustrating—the one time he actually wants to be the villain, nobody's cooperating.
