Mikage Kirio comes from a family of ninja whose ancestors were forced to reinvent themselves after the Meiji Restoration ended that way of life. Today, the Kirio family runs the Shadow Village Company, a protection service catering to wealthy clients and VIPs. Mikage has been Mr. James G. Rod's bodyguard since childhood, part of a dedicated team watching over the widowed businessman. Her feelings for him go beyond professional duty—something she knows isn't exactly appropriate—but she's come to mean something to him too, filling a void left by his lost family. So he makes her an offer: let him adopt her as his daughter so she can finally leave the bodyguard life behind and live like a normal girl attending school. Then Mr. Rod is assassinated the very next day. Now Mikage has to grapple with whether she'll actually go through with his last wish, and if so, how.
