In Japan, teenagers with supernatural powers started appearing everywhere. Makoto Ichinose is one of them—and he's also a player in the new VRMMO Cross Chronicle Online, where he accidentally created a priest character with max defense stats instead of the healing he was supposed to have. A few weeks into the game, a mysterious alternate world suddenly emerges inside the game itself, causing major problems. When spring comes around, Makoto enrolls in a high school dedicated to studying supernatural abilities. To help investigate what's going on with this other world, he logs back into Cross Chronicle. Armed with his unconventional priest build and twin shields, Makoto turns out to be ridiculously effective in combat—even if other players mockingly call him "Landmine Priest." Before long, his reputation shifts and he's known as "Build Error" instead.
