Star Ocean: The Far Side of Time kicks off the entire series. The story follows Ratix Farrence, a young swordsman from the backwater planet Roak who lives in the town of Clatos. He's part of the local militia—the Clatos Brigade—alongside his friend Dorn, and he's quietly loved by Milly Kiliet, one of his closest friends. When a mysterious plague hits the nearby city of Cool and starts turning people to stone, Milly's father, the town healer, rushes there to help using magic but gets infected himself.
