Chris was born with a curse called the "brand of beast"—a mark on his hand and forehead that warps the fate of everyone around him. For years he's been drifting from battlefield to battlefield as a mercenary, until he meets Minerva, a girl in white robes who wields an enormous sword. She's a legendary swordsman with the ability to see the future and fights with overwhelming skill. When Minerva has a vision that Chris will kill her that night, everything should play out exactly as she foresees. But Chris's curse interferes, twisting her fate in ways neither of them expected.
