Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners
A teenage girl with the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception—a rare ability to perceive the "death" of all things and destroy them by striking their origin—wakes up from a two-year coma following a car accident. Before the crash, she had two distinct personalities, both named Shiki: a male "yang" personality and a female "yin" personality that were standard for children born into her family. They had different speech patterns and mannerisms, making them easy to tell apart. After regaining consciousness, the girl realizes the male personality is gone, apparently killed in the accident. She also feels strangely disconnected from her own memories and identity, knowing intellectually that she's Shiki but not feeling like herself. In an attempt to recover what she's lost, she adopts a cold demeanor reminiscent of her lost male half while trying to act like her female side once did. Her friend Tōko recognizes this detachment and suspects what's actually happened: the accident didn't kill the male personality—it created a third, entirely new one.
