Synopsis

Kanoko Himemiya is basically the only straight-laced girl at a school full of delinquents and burnouts. While her older sister Mayu keeps climbing the fame ladder, Kanoko's stuck with plain looks and a plain personality—destined for an unremarkable life. The weird thing they do share is a butterfly-shaped birthmark on their thumbs. Then Tsubame Yoshizawa shows up. He's this charming guy obsessed with painting girls' nails, and he's immediately interested in Kanoko despite her constant rejections. When paparazzi start hounding Kanoko about her sister, Tsubame randomly helps her escape. As they're running, their thumbs touch and suddenly Kanoko gets flooded with memories from a past life. Tsubame's been through this before—apparently he and a lover died together and were reborn, and now they're supposed to find each other. The butterfly birthmarks are the key: press them together and memories surface. Problem is, the memories don't always line up between people. Tsubame's convinced Kanoko is his destined soulmate, but Kanoko thinks he's actually looking for her sister. Things get messier when other people start showing up with the same birthmark, and it becomes clear this whole thing ties a group of friends to some tragic event from centuries ago. Now they're all trying to piece together what happened and figure out whether they should chase these supposedly fated connections or just walk away from the whole thing.
