Bell Cranel is a rookie adventurer trying to make a name for himself in Orario, a city literally built above an endless dungeon crawling with monsters. The gods and goddesses who run the place are basically immortal and bored out of their minds, so they meddle constantly. Bell's got ambition but little else going for him—until a chance encounter in the dungeon changes everything. He meets Ais, a skilled swordswoman way out of his league, and suddenly he's got way bigger problems than just surviving. His lonely patron goddess, who's been the only one backing him so far, is *not* happy about the attention he's paying to Ais. Now he's stuck juggling his desperate crush, his goddess's jealousy, and the actual life-or-death business of dungeon crawling.
