Synopsis

It's early 16th-century Florence, and the Renaissance is in full bloom. Artists are running workshops, honing their craft, and training the next generation of apprentices—though that next generation is expected to be male. Women, meanwhile, have one job: support their husbands and raise kids. Arte is a noblewoman's daughter with a genuine passion for painting. When her supportive father dies, her mother decides it's time to shape her into a respectable lady befitting their modest means. But Arte's not having it. She's stubborn and ambitious, dead set on breaking free from what society expects and becoming a real artist. She pounds the pavement looking for someone to take her on as an apprentice, only to get rejected repeatedly—apparently being a woman trying to learn art is laughable to most. Then Leo, who runs a small workshop, actually says yes. Once Arte proves she's serious and willing to put in the work, he agrees to take her as his apprentice and even lets her live in the workshop. For the first time, she's truly free. Now she just has to carve out a place for herself in a world that wasn't built for her.
