Synopsis

Dao Ma is a warrior-for-hire in a profession called "escorts"—basically, people who get paid to hunt down whoever the government wants dead. He's on a mission to repay a debt to Mo, a man who raised him and his kid, Xiao Qi. On the way back to Mo's town, though, they stumble across someone who's been attacked by rakshasa—man-eating demons that are becoming a real problem. What starts as one encounter spirals into something much bigger. As rakshasa attacks pile up alongside slavery, bloodshed, and brutal mercenaries, Dao Ma finds himself trapped in the chaos consuming the country during the final days of the Sui dynasty.
