Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex It's 2032, and the line between human and machine has basically disappeared. When cyborgs start committing crimes, Section 9—an elite counter-terrorism unit led by Chief Aramaki and his cyborg operative Major Motoko Kusanagi—gets called in to handle it. They've dealt with plenty of threats before, but nothing quite like the group known as "The Awakened." These terrorists have a terrifying ability: they can hijack people's minds and bodies, turning everyday citizens into unwitting puppets for their crimes. When Kusanagi manages to capture one of their victims, she dives into his cyberbrain to track down who's really behind it all. What she uncovers sends her spiraling into cyberspace itself—and forces her to confront some uncomfortable truths about her own existence along the way.
