When an alien spacecraft mysteriously crashes on Earth, humanity finally realizes they're not alone—and they're terrified. Nations put aside their differences and unite under the UN to face the potential threat. They salvage the alien ship, rename it the SDF-1 Macross, and prepare for its first voyage. But on launch day, a massive fleet of Zentradi warships descends on the planet. The Macross fires on them automatically, and suddenly Earth is caught in an intergalactic war. Trying to escape, the Macross attempts to reach the Moon's orbit but instead gets warped to the far side of space—along with the entire city built around it. Caught in the chaos are Hikaru Ichijou, a cocky acrobatic pilot, and Minmay Lynn, a wannabe pop star. They're joined by Misa Hayase, an officer on the Macross's bridge.
