Synopsis

A long time ago, the god of light and the god of darkness existed side by side. While people who worshipped the god of light enjoyed happiness and good fortune, the god of darkness tormented them and stole their joy. So the god of light punished him by transforming him into a monster. Furious, the god of darkness turned his punishment into a curse to spread suffering everywhere. As a result, he was banished to the Outside along with his monstrous offspring, condemned to stay there forever. Those from the Inside were forbidden from ever touching anyone from the Outside—doing so would curse them with a hideous form. A young girl named Shiva grows up on the Inside, but is discovered by an Outsider she calls Sensei. They can't touch each other, but Sensei looks after her anyway, and they manage a fairly happy life together. Eventually though, Shiva finds herself caught between two threats: the dangers lurking in the Outside, and the people from her own world who want to harm her.
