It's present day, and Archangel Michael has decided humanity isn't worth saving. The angels are holding a contest: one team hunts for humanity's good points while the other searches for bad ones. Whoever reaches 10,000 first gets to decide whether humans live or die. Chihaya and Kagetsuya are former military school classmates from Eden who've ended up on opposite sides of this scoring system—and now they're stuck working together on Earth. The problem is, Chihaya's already an oddball by angel standards. He's got black hair, eyes, and wings, making him a complete anomaly. Despite his easygoing personality, he's also unusually powerful, which freaks Kagetsuya out. Things get worse when the Black Cancer hits the heavenly population. The disease darkens an angel's wings and hair before killing them in agony. As paranoia spreads through the ranks, tensions between Chihaya and Kagetsuya reach a breaking point—especially when it becomes clear that Chihaya might be the key to saving or destroying both heaven and Earth.
