Koujirou Shindou, a high-ranking government official at the Cabinet Office, is at Haneda Airport heading out on a business trip when things go sideways fast. While the plane sits on the runway, a massive structure materializes out of nowhere and swallows the aircraft whole—all 252 people on board. Once everyone gets off, a seemingly ordinary guy appears and tells them they're safe. When Shindou presses him for answers, things escalate: the interior walls suddenly display what's happening outside, and every passenger's phone starts buzzing at once with an identical message sent to every citizen in Japan. The message is from Yaha-kui zaShunina, and it's a straight-up announcement: he's here to interfere in Japan's internal affairs. Now Shindou has to figure out what this guy actually wants—and whether he can position himself as a negotiator between Japan and the Anisotorons.
