A thousand years before Christ, the last king of an ancient dynasty made the ultimate sacrifice—his own life and those of his allies—to seal away a demon fox that had plunged his land into chaos and despair. In Kyoto, Mikuzu's family falls under a curse after her father nearly shoots a fox with an arrow. With her father gravely ill, Mikuzu—daughter of a masterless samurai—teams up with her neighbor and childhood friend Onioumaru to find a cure. But the demon fox has other plans. She abducts Mikuzu, intent on using her as a vessel to restart her reign of destruction. Now it's a race to save Mikuzu and restore the seal that's kept the fox contained for centuries.
