Synopsis

Chise has always been able to see magical creatures, but it's never brought her luck—quite the opposite. After her parents ditched her, that ability just made her life harder. Desperate for a place to belong, she eventually sells herself to a slave market, hoping to find some kind of home. At the auction, she's presented as a rare "Sleigh Beggy," someone with an unusually strong connection to magic. That's when Elias Ainsworth shows up—a strange magus who looks more monster than man. Instead of buying her as a slave, he decides to take her on as an apprentice and marry her. He brings her to his home in the English countryside, and suddenly Chise's surrounded by fairies, dragons, and all kinds of magical things she never knew existed. It's beautiful and terrifying at the same time. As she settles into this new life, though, she can't shake the feeling that something darker might be lurking beneath the surface—and she's not sure if Elias is actually her salvation or something far more sinister.
