Synopsis

Subaru wakes up in an unfamiliar room with no memory of how he got there. The two identical maids tending to him—sisters Rem and Ram—become instant targets for his jokes about their synchronized speech patterns. Before he can really get going, Emilia shows up. She's the girl he's been dying for literally—using his "Return By Death" power to go back in time whenever things go south. Emilia explains that Subaru got hurt protecting her from some assassin named Elsa, so she brought him to recover at her place: a mansion owned by Roswaal, an eccentric nobleman with serious clown energy. At breakfast the next morning, Subaru asks for payment in the form of a job—he wants to work as a butler alongside Rem and Ram. Roswaal agrees without hesitation. Things are looking up. Then, a few days in, Subaru dies again and wakes back at the start. It's his ability all over again, except he has no idea what killed him or why. Now he's stuck trying to figure out what's going on before losing his mind in the process.
