Youkai Hunter: Yami no Kyakujin
Hieda is an archeology professor with an unshakeable conviction that supernatural creatures—gods, demons, the whole deal—are real. Problem is, he can't actually prove it, so his colleagues have dubbed him the "Youkai Hunter" and won't take him seriously. One day, two guys from a town called Ootori-chou show up wanting his help. They're trying to boost tourism by resurrecting their town's old Demon Festival, which died out a hundred years ago. They want to base it on Hieda's research, though they're planning to punch things up a bit to appeal to modern audiences. Hieda's hesitant—the festival has a dark history involving human deaths—but he agrees to come on as an advisor anyway. Turns out the festival ends up being way more historically accurate than anyone bargained for, and Hieda's going to need every bit of his knowledge and guts to fix the mess.
