Synopsis

In Edo-era Japan, a young boy named Jinta and his sister are forced to flee their home and take shelter in a remote mountain village. By adulthood, Jinta has become a skilled swordsman tasked with guarding the local shrine priestess. When a demon begins threatening the shrine, Jinta tracks it into the forest for a final confrontation—only to have the creature reveal something impossible. It tells him that their real battle won't happen for another 170 years, in a distant future. What follows is an epic tale that jumps across centuries as Jinta pursues this demon through time, gradually uncovering truths about his own darker side along the way.
