Ten years ago, Hell's Gate appeared without warning in the middle of Tokyo, blocking out the night sky. Strange new stars took its place—each one tied to a person with supernatural powers. These emotionless, conscience-free killers became known as Contractors, and they operate in the shadows while most people remain completely unaware they exist. High school student Kana Shinoh is one of those oblivious people. She's been dealing with her father's death for the past year and hasn't paid much attention to the rumors about Hell's Gate. Then one day she sees her father on the street. Convinced he's still alive, she throws herself into searching for him—but her investigation puts her directly in the path of danger. That's when Hei, Tokyo's most wanted Contractor, saves her life. He's cold and indifferent to her situation, but for some reason he agrees to help her look for her father.
