Naoyuki Onda got his start in anime during the early days of the medium, working as a key frame animator on Aura Battler Danbai after joining Pack Studio. He moved into direction work on Gundam Z and Hono no Alpenroze, then made his debut as a character designer on Drangon Century.
He's best known for his work on Sol Bianca and Ai No Kusabi, the latter being particularly influential in certain anime circles. His character designs stand out—fans often note how they pull from Western art influences rather than sticking to the more traditional Japanese approach of the time, giving his work a distinctly different aesthetic.
Before that, he attended the same high school as Yasuhiko Yoshikatu and Kogawa Tomonori, and his first anime credit came through work on Dr. Slump after joining Studio BeVore. His design work with AIC continued through the late 90s and early 2000s, with Parasite Doll—a sequel to A.D. Police—among his final major projects with the studio.
