Mori Chack

Mori Chack is a Japanese graphic designer from Sakai, Osaka, best known for creating Gloomy Bear—a notoriously violent, hot-pink bear character that stands about two meters tall. The Chax product line, which features this and other designs, has become his signature work.

What sets Mori Chack apart is his deliberate rejection of the saccharine cute aesthetic that dominates mainstream character design from companies like Disney and Sanrio. His philosophy is straightforward: humans and animals fundamentally don't mix, and animals are wild creatures by nature. Gloomy Bear embodies this idea—a direct middle finger to the oversaturated world of kawaii culture. The character's violent tendencies and unsettling pink aesthetic feel intentionally jarring, which is exactly the point.
